SIGN UP YOUR SCHOOL FOR THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST KIDS MARATHON

Schools are encouraged to incorporate the Mississippi Gulf Coast Kids Marathon Race Program in their health and fitness initiatives as well as fund raising efforts.

Schools can encourage kids and their families to sign up for the 1.2 mile fun run or kids 5K or use a multi-week race program filled with performance tracking tools and educational tools provided by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon Organizing Committee. Schools with the most students will receive a cash prize for physical education equipment.  Schools must notify us of their desire to compete and provide enrollment numbers to be eligible for the % awards.  Also, schools must have a minimum of 30 students register to be eligible to win any award.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Kids Marathon mission: Instill running as a part of a healthy lifestyle in our kids at an early age. Getting regular exercise is an important component in reaching a healthy lifestyle.

PROGRAMS

Our kids race programs are fun for the family and challenging enough to instill a sense of real accomplishment when the finishing medals are awarded. By participating in an extended program, the conversation will be about running, techniques, schedules, food and recovery. Learning about these aspects of the sport will set a foundation for running for years to come.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Kids Marathon is a 1.2 Mile Race for ages 12 and under. Our running program is designed to give kids a platform to accomplish a physical fitness goal by running a marathon distance (26.2 miles) over a nine-week period.

The end result, hopefully, is a more confident, active kid who has a new or re-energized love of running and being active.

HOW THE EXTENDED RACE PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOL WORK

The kids run 25 miles in an extended multi-week race program that best matches their skillets leading up to race-day. Then they run the final 1.2 miles stretch on race-day to complete their marathon distance of 26.2 miles. Multi-week program available:

  • 9-Week Program
  • 8-Week Program
  • 7-Week Program
  • 6-Week Program
  • 5-Week Program
  • 4-Week Program

HOW THE ONE-DAY RACE WORKS FOR SCHOOL WORK

REMEMBER… Children do not have to complete the whole program to run on race day.  Our goal is to encourage healthy and active lifestyles.
